Wedding gown cleaning, documented and boxed for the long term
A gown carries stains you cannot see on the wedding day and cannot reverse years later. We inspect, treat, press and box it so it stays the color it was.
The champagne you cannot see, and the yellow it turns into
The dangerous stains on a wedding gown are not the ones everyone noticed at the reception. They are the clear ones. Champagne, cake frosting, a sip of punch and the dried sugar from a dessert table all dry colorless, and a gown can look perfect on the hanger the next morning. Over months the sugar oxidizes and turns brown, and by the time a daughter or a sister opens the box, the damage is set into the fibers.
Perspiration and food proteins behave the same way, and so do the grass and dirt that find a hem on a garden or beach ceremony. Add a gown made of silk, beaded lace or layers of tulle, and a standard cleaning cycle is the wrong tool entirely. Beads can loosen, trims can bleed and delicate lace can pull.
That is why a gown should not be handled like a dress from the weekday rack. It needs someone to find the invisible marks first, and to decide on a method before any cleaning begins.

Inspected under specialized light, then treated stain by stain
The work begins with a full inspection and documentation of the gown under specialized lighting. That light shows the sugar and protein marks that daylight hides, and it records the condition of the beadwork, seams, hem and any existing repairs, so there is a clear picture of what came in and what went out.
Each stain then gets couture stain treatment, matched to its type: one approach for sugar and champagne, another for protein, another for dirt along the hem. After that the gown is cleaned either with our eco-friendly dry clean or with a gentle wet clean, whichever suits the fabric, the trim and the construction. The decision is made garment by garment, not by habit.
Finishing is done by hand. The gown is steamed, then hand pressed, with the skirt, bodice and any train handled separately so nothing is flattened or scorched. If a seam has loosened, a bead has gone missing or a zipper is tired, our in-house tailor can handle the gown repair before it is packed away, so you are not boxing up a problem.
The box, the tissue and the choice to look at it
Preservation is where a good clean either lasts or fails. Your gown is folded into an acid-free archival box with pH-neutral tissue, which keeps paper acids from yellowing the fabric. The box allows the gown to breathe, instead of sealing it in plastic where moisture can collect during a Florida summer. If you would like to see the gown without opening it, the box can have a viewing window in the lid.
Store it indoors, away from the garage and the attic, in a closet or under a bed where the temperature does not swing. Check on it every few years, and when you do, open the box gently and refold along new lines so no crease stays under pressure for a decade.
